President’s Message Dear Members and Friends of the RPSS: Our society was shocked and saddened by the death of our dear member and friend John B. Head. A sympathy card and a flower tribute have been sent to his wife from all of us. Reference the Site Map to access John's Obituary and member Iris August Hinden's Tribute, "The John Head I Knew."
On a brighter note, RPSS Secretary Laura Edmonds, Treasurer John Beck and I attended the St. Louis Stamp Expo this past week. Laura and John bid on and won several lots in the Regency Superior Auction and were very pleased with themselves and their winnings. John and I spent two days visiting with old friends, buying stamps and driving the dealer’s nuts. The exhibits were very interesting; the food was good; the hotel was luxurious (with a free shuttle service from the airport). The fifty-three dealers and all the exhibits were in one large room. And we all had a great time visiting some of the sites in St. Louis. Laura, John and I met Saturday morning after breakfast from 8: 30 to 12:30 planning some future RPSS business and activities. Please review Laura’s minutes of the meeting for details. We all agreed on the preliminary organization and procedure for an in-house “RPSS Auction”. We still have some details to iron out, and are planning to request participation of interested members soon (sellers and buyers of Ryukyu material). So sort out your Ryukyu duplicates for the Auction and turn them into cash. We will publish the auction rules and procedure soon. Also we have agreed on a preliminary organization and operating procedure for a “RPSS Ryukyu Expert Committee”.Again some details need to be resolved, but hopefully by the end of this year the Expert Committee members will be selected. We are working on several other issues. (Again see the meeting minutes for details.) The WestPex show is set for April 25-27, 2008, at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Hotel. Click Here to visit their web site for hotel reservations and other pertinent information. The RPSS meeting is scheduled at the hotel, Room 8042, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm., Saturday April 26th. Please join us. Be a part of our Society and let’s have fun with our collections. Things are happening!!! I want to establish an open communication with the membership. Please feel free to contact me with your concerns and ideas relating to the RPSS. My phone: 661-822-1795 or you can email me. Address: Ron Brawner, 22731 Camp Dr. Tehachapi, CA 93561 So get out of the stock market, get out your stamp collections, invest in stamps, and have fun!

As of March 6, 2008 I would like to welcome our two new members to the Society!
Mr. Harry S. Grisham Mr. Robert Larson I would again like to thank all of you who renewed your 2008 Regular and Sustaining memberships and gave so generously to the Publications Fund! Our Society depends on your support and we greatly appreciate your participation and contributions. If you haven't renewed your membership, 2008 renewals are now due. Pay Pal We now have another payment option available through pay pal. To make a payment, go to pay pal and send to secretary@ryukyustamps.org selecting "Service/Other" as type of payment or use the pay pal buttons on our website. . Hopefully this will benefit our overseas members in particular, who previous had to pay fees for international money orders, etc. You can still send dues to me at our PO Box as well. Pay Pal Link Buttons will be added to this web-site in the very near future to make your payments and donations to the RPSS easier! If you do not have a Pay Pal account, you will be able to activate one if you wish to or pay with a major credit card or personal check using Pay Pal. St. Louis Stamp Expo 2008 - Meeting Notes: Ron Brawner, John Beck and I attended the St. Louis Stamp Expo (Feb 29th - Mar 2nd) and met to discuss the following: Treasurer's Report - John Beck The Society currently averages around $7800 in funds. This is concerning as publication cost of our Journal run about $1500 per issue. Sustaining publication of 3 journals a year cannot be sustained under membership dues and contributions alone. Ron suggested two ways to improve our funds - restarting both our Expertizing Service and our Society Auctions. He will present his plans for each at WestPex for approval by the Board: 1) RPSS Expertizing Service The Expertizing Committee would consist of: A. A Chairperson to direct all activities and determine the fee schedule, review and approve all certificates B. A Manager to handle all requests/items, certificate paperwork, etc. C. Experts in three areas: a) Provisional stamps and stationary b) Regular stamps and postal stationary c) Scott 44-53 and related stationary 2) Society Auctions The Auction Committee would consist of: A. An Auction Advisor to oversee and review lots and their descriptions, the auction catalogue, and auction results B. An Auction Coordinator to receive materials, prepare the Catalogue, mail out bid lists, prepare prices realized, etc. The Sellers would have to be RPSS members, although Buyer could be either members or the general public. The Society would receive a 20% commission - 10% from the buyer and 10% from the seller. Other Agenda Items Ron suggested and we all agreed that we need a Special Journal section to honor past members who contributed greatly to our Society. I discussed our new pay pal account and our new membership cards. You'll see these sent out with your 2008 renewals, as well as for new members going forward. We all agreed that we needed to make Back-issues of "From The Dragon's Den" available for purchase. Many members have requested back-issues. If issues were not available in quantity, we suggested making photocopies available at a lesser charge, or possibly republishing the early scarcer volumes. I am working on compiling a list of what is available. ******************************** CURRENT ACTIVITY ACTIVE MEMBERS 194 NEW MEMBERS 808 Mr. Harry S.
